As Kirsty began to wake up from her nap, she remembered Sam carrying her to bed and was slightly disarmed by just how nice he was being to her. Though at first, she had put his kindness down to his job—he was a park ranger, after all, and taking care of tourists like her was part of his job description—Kirsty was quickly realizing that Sam’s good nature wasn’t just a product of his profession. It was becoming clear that he was actually a nice guy, which confused her. Weren’t all guys his age supposed to be dicks? And here he was lending her clothes, making her lunch, offering her his bed to sleep in. Where was the jerkiness, the condescension? All she saw when she looked at him was a heart of gold and a body a secret, sexual part of her wouldn’t mind climbing like a tree.
